Air Conditioning Service

All vehicles for the most part have a similar air conditioning  system.  A very crucial part of the system is called the evaporator.  It's function is much like a radiator.  Cold refrigerant flows through the evaporator while outside air flows through the fins of the evaporator core into the cabin.  Often times the evaporator is located under the vehicle's dashboard inside the cabin of the vehicle.

One quick check through a special access hole in the heater case can determine the condition of the evaporator core.  Certain Dodge Caravans, Plymouth Voyagers, and Chrysler Town and Country's have a poorly designed evaporator core.  Leaves and debris collect on the cowl just at the bottom of the windshield and can make their way into the heater case collecting against the evaporator core. When the air conditioning system is operated, the built up debris soaks the condensation up and with time the evaporator core's metal begins to corrode away eventually releasing refrigerant. Replacement of the evaporator core is very labor intensive and will usually be over a thousand dollars.
